Representatives from Kendra attended the Croydon Local Plan drop-in meeting on 8th December.

In very general terms the Croydon Local Plan does not hold significant changes the Kenley, however in one disturbing development an area around Kenley Station has been identified for “intensification”.

The following photographs were taken of display boards at the meeting, so the image quality is not the best:

The plan refers to an area between Kenley station and Godstone Road (subject to development being safe from flooding for the lifetime of the Plan)

DM31.4  In specific locations identified on the Policies Map to maximise the potential for sustainable growth … the Council will support the intensification of areas which are developable, where there is adequate provision of community infrastructure, good accessibility to public transport and open space and schools, excluding areas with highest level of deprivation in the borough.

Additionally the shopping parade on Old Lodge Lane is not considered to be sustainable:

The Croydon local plan sets out detailed policies regarding housing developments and community facilities. It will directly affect residents of Kenley, so please see the details below regarding the consultation process which is currently underway. Kendra will be attending the consultation and submitting a response if appropriate. The following information has been provided by Croydon Council:

Why are we doing this?: 
The Croydon Local Plan: Strategic Policies was adopted in April 2013 and sets a vision and framework for the planning of the borough up to 2031. A Partial Review of the Strategic Policies has been undertaken to ensure the borough has an up to date development plan to 2036 and to take account of the Further Alterations to the London Plan, which has increased the borough’s housing requirement. The Partial Review also includes updated evidence on employment policies, community facilities and a move from Local Areas of Special Character to Local Heritage Areas.

The Croydon Local Plan: Detailed Policies and Proposals will provide greater planning policy detail to the Strategic Policies, setting out development management planning policies and site allocations for a range of land uses to meet the borough’s growth needs to 2036. The Detailed Policies and Proposals will also ensure a continued focus on the 16 Places of Croydon outlined in the Croydon Local Plan: Strategic Policies. The focus on the 16 Places of Croydon provides detailed context to important and valued character, functions and opportunities for each Place. Once adopted, the Detailed Policies and Proposals will replace the currently saved policies of the Unitary Development Plan (2006).

This consultation is your opportunity to contribute to and shape the Croydon Local Plan up to 2036. Any representations on the Croydon Local Plan (Preferred and Alternative Options) received during the consultation period will inform the Proposed Submission draft which will be published in Summer 2016.
