The Kenley Airfield Friends Group (KAFG) has been awarded £881,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Additional donations from other group members, the City of London and Historic England, will increase the award to over one million pounds. The group’s bid for funding began in 2012 and has been described as ‘very hard work,’ by chairman, Alan Morgan.
Kenley Airfield is the most intact of all the Battle of Britain airfields, and the funds will be used to restore, inform and educate. Plans include a virtual museum and a mobile exhibition. As part of the Kenley Revival Project, a small team of management staff and 40 to 50 volunteers will be recruited. For further information go to www.kafg.org.uk
