There’s a new zebra crossing outside The Hayes School. This was proposed around 2 years ago and the Council provided a consultation. It just takes time for these wheels to turn.
The is clearly little need for a zebra crossing on Hayes Lane as the traffic volumes are too low. However, this crossing discourages two behaviours that do desperately need attention and therefore should be welcome. The crossing has a “table-top” which should force all vehicles, including SUVs/vans and lorries, to slow down. Too many drives have been driving past the school too fast.
The zig-zags will discourage dangerous parking to make crossing the road safer. Again selfish parking, mainly by parents, has made the road dangerous. It will be interesting to see if people park on the zig-zags. Anyone can report this type of dangerous parking via the web and the driver is quite likely to receive a parking fine via their door mat.
