IMPROVEMENT WORKS – Reconstruction of Old Lodge Lane underbridge
I am writing to inform you that Network Rail is required to undertake essential improvement works near your property. These improvements are a vital aspect of our strategy to provide a safe, reliable and efficient railway fit for the 21st century. The existing deck sections to the outside of the brick arch have come to the end of their design life and are therefore being replaced with new steel decks.
Works will be undertaken from November 2015 to January 2016, a more detailed schedule of the works is outlined below:

A traffic diversion for vehicles will be in place but pedestrian access will be provided through the site. Please find enclosed a map showing the proposed route of the traffic diversion. |
18:00hrs 30 December 2015 to 04:00hrs04 January 2016 | Installation of the new bridge decks during a blockade of the railway. Cranes will be set up on Old Lodge Lane to lift the old bridge out and lift the new bridge in. Work will be carried out 24 hours a day during this period. The road will be entirely close during this period. A shuttle bus service will be in place to provide pedestrians with transport from one side of the road closure to the other |
04:00hrs 4 January 2016 until 17.00 11 January 2016 | Removal of the scaffold from the new structure. Repairs to the brickwork abutments and repairs to the road where required. A traffic diversion for vehicles will be in place but pedestrian access will be provided through the site. |
12 January 2016 until 29 January 2016 | Removal of the site compound. Site will receive deliveries but no traffic diversions will be in place. |
To provide you with further details on the proposed works and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have, we will be holdings a residents meeting at St. Nicolas School on 17th November 2015 from 19:00 to 21:00.
Safety is our number one priority and for this reason work of this type must be carried out while trains are not in operation. Under our licence conditions we are contractually obliged to work, whenever possible, at improvements during the night and at weekends.
The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise. Furthermore, those working on site are briefed on working responsibly in the local community.
I hope this information is helpful and we apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause. However, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please visit www.networkrail.co.uk or telephone our 24-Hour National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41.
Yours sincerely
