Early last year KENDRA Committee asked our Councillors if they could explore the possibility of opening up Kenley Station Car Park for short term parking. It was noted that most of the spaces appeared to remain empty at the station, while it was sometimes impossible to find a parking space in the side roads, particularly for a longer stay, during the day. The station’s bays outside the main car park are for pick-ups and drop-offs, and restricted to 10 minutes.
Fortunately, Cllr. Gayle Gander, who had been collaborating with Govia-Thameslink Railway (GTR) over the installation of the new Bike Hub at the station as part of the Kenley Good Growth Fund, was able to pursue the parking idea using her GTR contacts. GTR were open tom the idea but had to ensure their customers would have enough available bays in which to park.
Cllr. Gander’s persistence on this paid off. It is now possible to park in the main car park area for up to 4 hours. The tariff is £1 for one hour, £2 for two hours and £4 for up to four hours. This will enable drivers who want to use Kenley Memorial Hall or the pub and restaurant to park without anxiety of restrictions and a fine. Until now the only option was to pay the full day tariff of £5.70.
