This year we are commemorating a special time for our historic and famous airfield.
Back in 1917, in the days of the Royal Flying Corps, it was known as No. 7 Aircraft Acceptance Park. The operation then was to assemble, test and fly the aircraft to France for use in the First World War; on 1st April 1918 the Royal Air Force was formed and the airfield became RAF Kenley.
For this special occasion of 100 years of aviation, the BBMF will be making a flypast over the airfield at 12:55 pm on Sunday 20th August. Please note the event taking place will, naturally, be subject to flying conditions on the day and timings can change but, if you intend to go along, give yourself plenty of time to get there and also keep to the RAF Kenley Tribute Side of Kenley Common.
The sight and sound of these iconic aircraft may well be the last time we see BBMF over our airfield because, next year, there will be a charge and sponsorship will be required (to be in place before 31st August 2017) to secure that event.
